Fanservice is the sixteenth episode of Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series.

Description[]

Also known as "the episode only Kroze likes"...

And that's probably for the Keith fanservice.

In the dead of the night, the minor characters decide to seize their chance to shine and go off to have an adventure.

Summary[]

In the dining hall of Pegasus's castle, Croquet explains that all semi-finalists must hold an entry card. Joey panics, as he doesn't have one of those, and Yugi taunts him with one of the ones he has as payback for the time Joey threw away a piece of his Millennium Puzzle. Joey takes the card for himself.

That night, Tristan, who's sick of his minor character status, convinces Tea and Bakura that they should all take matters into their own hands, despite Tea's warning about it "upsetting the natural order." As they wander through the castle, they run into Pegasus himself, who is about to send them to the Shadow Realm for trying to be main characters before Yami Bakura reappears and uses his Millennium Ring to pretend that the episode never happened.

Meanwhile, Mai provides plenty of fanservice, Yugi has a bizarre dream involving his grandpa's and the Kaiba brothers' soul cards, and Bandit Keith steals the entry card Joey took from Yugi. The episode ends before YB can provide his own fanservice.

Cultural References[]

  • The opening scene references Aqua Teen Hunger Force, which would frequently open with an establishing shot of a castle and Dr. Weird saying "Gentlemen, behold!" in an opening segment that had absolutely nothing to do with the plot.
  • Tristan references The Goonies, with Bakura asking if he could be Corey Feldman, a lead role in the movie. Later in the episode, Tristan calls Pegasus One-Eyed Willy, the movie's antagonist.
  • Téa references the late actor River Phoenix in the movie Stand By Me, in which Feldman also had a role.
  • Bakura's line, "I'm surrounded by wankers", references the famous line, "I'm surrounded by idiots", from The Lion King.
  • "Oh Yeah" by Yello plays during Bandit Keith's obligatory fanservice scene.
  • "By the way, this is a 2001 parody."
  • The song being chanted by Pegasus and the ancient cult is "Hooked on a Feeling" by Blue Swede.
  • Yami Bakura's line as his scene is cut by the ending credits is a reference to Monty Python's Spanish Inquisition sketch.
