- Yugi's summoning of "Disgruntled Celtic Guardian" is a reference to the monster Obnoxious Celtic Guardian; however, in the anime the monster Yugi summons is just the normal Celtic Guardian.
- The name also references Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, where the character Fat Bastard is described as "a disgruntled Scottish guard".
- When Rebecca first appears, a segment of the song "Tubular Bells" by Mike Oldfield plays.
- Arthur Hawkins' line "With great cards comes great responsibility" is a play on the famous closing text of Amazing Fantasy #15.
