I don't know if people here read this forum. I hope so.
So, I'm wondering about the policy on using brackets for indications in the transcripts. I don't know if we should use them or not.
Its use is inconsistent in in older episodes, and I've been removing them. But then I noticed that most of the newer episodes have them. So now I don't know how to continue. Personally, I like it best without the brackets (except in the middle of a line, I'd always use it in that case), but I prefer to do as everybody else is doing and keep the same style in all pages.
Any ideas or preferences? Is there a standard for this?
I like using square brackets, always. Took that style from wikiquote. Whether to use a new line or the same, depends on timing: if Tristan jumped mid-speech, I'd use the latter. If he stopped talking for a moment, the former.
I don't know if it counts as a "standard", but Lostpedia uses square brackets too: w:c:lostpedia:Enter_77_transcript. I think you can also find it on some other Wikia wikis.
Wait, square brackets? But, um... I don't think I've seen any transcript in this wiki using that convention. The most popular ones are the two I showed: italics and italics+brackets. I was hoping we'd pick one of those...
I mean, I could change them all to square brackets, if we decide that that's going to be our next convention; it's not that hard. But nobody's been using it so far, why is that?
By the way, should I expect more opinions here, more voices? How many active editors are there now? I don't even know. Is there anybody who makes decisions (like this one)?
I checked the Lostpedia link. It feels really plain. I like this wiki's style more; the bold names and italics make it more visual, easier to read. That said, the type of brackets used makes no difference to me, I'm fine with either one. I just want a consensus, heh.
I don't know, they just seem neater to me. Especially when italicised. I used the style in some transcripts I wrote here, but someone changed it, and personally I don't care that much. And yes, I'd rather keep the bold and italics.
It's just the three of us, it seems. Go to Special:ListUsers and see. I'm the only admin who looks here semi-regularly. (And I'm seriously thinking about passing the torch to someone else.) Some advertising around would be nice. And there isn't a formal decision-making process, so whatever we agree on this forum might as well be called "official". But if you really want a rubber stamp, I can draw you one.
